My research focuses on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). I'm also involved with studies of future collider facilities that can extend the physics reach of the LHC. I'm involved with four main activities going on at SCIPP: Undergraduate students who might be interested in research on ATLAS or future colliders should read the primer on detectors and electronics for particle physics experiments.

For students particularly interested in data analysis, we're using github (or gitlab) for code management and docker containers to run software. Make sure you have git and docker installed on your operating system.

For middle/high school students interested in research in particle physics, SCIPP offers a number of events such as QuarkNet Masterclasses and public lectures. You can find more information on the SCIPP outreach page. For more advanced students looking for experience with data analysis, the ATLAS Open Data site has some great resources for analyzing LHC data. I don't generally work directly with students before they have completed at least their first year of undergraduate physics, but I'm happy to answer general questions for fellow travelers on the road to discovery!
